It really is pretty country. The turkeys weren't wild. They lived on a neighboring property to one of the houses I looked at in the Flagstaff area. The macro lens is capable of 1:1 reproduction ratio. (At it's closest the image on the little sensor is the same size as the object being photographed.)
I have a couple of different macro lenses, but the one I've been using most is a 105mm that gives 1:1 at 12". This isn't as close in inches as many other cameras focus, but it is closer in terms of image magnification, and it is usually better to be a little farther back when photographing bugs, so they don't get as freaked out.
