I thought I remembered reading at one point that they were very sour, but that when copious amounts of sugar is introduced, they can be made into some fine preserves. Or something along those lines.
i've never seen one before! they remind me of peeled grapes.
I can only visualize the teacher from the Anne of Green Gables movie calling her self such a 'gooseberry'
