Gateway Monitor Trouble

Grandma Charlotte's 14-month old Gateway FPD2185W monitor stopped working a couple of weeks ago. A helpful fellow on the Internet said that we might get results by replacing these 8 green capacitors, so I gave it a try, and it worked! He's a genius!
The new capacitors:
Radio Shack Part number 272-1030. ( I had to drive to 3 different Radio Shacks to find 8).

How interesting! I like seeing the inside of the monitor. What do capacitors do?

Wow! I've never heard of anyone repairing a monitor before! Excellent!

Capacitors store a charge and then release it suddenly when needed. (I don't have any idea how that applies to a monitor)

Sweet. I've never heard of a home monitor repair either. This is a turn in home computer repair! I'll have to tell Mark.

I just ordered the same caps from partsexpress.com for only $6.93 (total w/ shipping).

Part # 020-1168

Cheaper to order 10 than 8 b/c of the bulk pricing. Make sure not to add the free catalog during checkout, for some reason it keeps you from picking the First-Class Mail shipping option (cheap & fast!). Would have cost almost $20 from Radioshack.com!

I'm looking to try this same fix just as soon as these caps arrive! Thanks for posting the pictures and info!
